The gateway to the Holy Cross Wilderness area, Minturn was on the map in 1887 with the arrival of the Rio Grande Railroad. An eclectic community filled with specialty shops, culinary delights, historic walking tours and a quaint bed and breakfast, it offers quiet respite from the nearby world-class ski resorts of Vail and Beaver Creek. Once a destination for miners seeking their fortunes in the nearby Gilman Mine, Minturn is one of two original and historic towns in the area. Minturn is now a mecca for those seeking the ultimate outdoor adventure in the Holy Cross Wilderness area. Summer months offer the famous Minturn Market-with over 110 booths and two entertainment tents running simultaneously. It is literally the biggest, best farmers market this side of the Continental Divide!! Enjoy magnificent Vistas, and incredible show of wildflowers while on foot or bicycle. The Eagle River, which runs through town, provides outstanding kayaking and rafting. The National Scenic Byway, one of the most beautiful and historic roads in the country, passes right through Minturn. The Forest Service Headquarters for Holy Cross area is also located here.
